Classic dilemma. I'm deciding between: Option A: Work with a well known PI in organic chemistry at a top 30 department. This person has placed students at excellent positions and has a strong publication record. Option B: A top 10 department where the faculty I'd work with is more junior (got tenure 2 years ago). Good work but not nearly the same reputation or network. My gut says advisor matters more than department in chemistry, but I've also heard the department name can matter for industry positions. Anyone been in a similar situation?
