Just got accepted into a Music Theory PhD program and trying to set realistic expectations! I have a background in performance (piano) and did my MA in music theory focusing on post tonal analysis and transformational theory. Questions for current or former music theory PhD students: How heavy is the teaching load? I'll be TAing aural skills and theory Is there any crossover with computational musicology or music cognition? That area really interests me What does the job market actually look like? I know its small but is it doable? Any advice for making the most of the first year? Thanks in advance!!
