Humanities job market 2026 anyone tracking numbers? I know we all know its bad, but is anyone actually tracking the TT job postings this cycle? In English/comparative lit specifically it feels even worse than last year which I didn't think was possible. I've been monitoring the JIL and the MLA job list and the numbers are just... grim. I have friends in the sciences who genuinely don't understand how bad it is over here. Like, they complain about "only" getting 3 flyouts and I'm sitting here with 200+ applications and 2 first round interviews. The scale of the mismatch between PhD production and available jobs in humanities is something else entirely. Anyone else in the thick of it this year?
