Red flags when evaluating a potential PhD advisor Starting my PhD in molecular biology this fall and I have to pick a rotation lab soon. I've been reading horror stories on here and other forums and honestly it's making me anxious. What are the actual concrete red flags I should watch for when evaluating potential advisors? I know the obvious stuff like "don't pick someone who yells at students" but what are the subtler signs that an advisor relationship is going to be toxic or unproductive? Things you wish someone had told you before you committed.
